Visit by the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

During his visit to the Kingdom today, Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), toured the regulatory laboratories of th​e NRRC, accompanied by the Commission’s CEO, Dr. Khalid Al-Essa. These national laboratories are accredited as part of the IAEA’s ALMERA (Analytical Laboratories for the Measurement of Environmental Radioactivity) network.

Mr. Grossi also reviewed the NRRC's national capabilities at the Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Operations Center. The center's capabilities include various platforms, such as the international incident notification platform, the continuous environmental radiation monitoring and early warning network (including the Kingdom's IRMIS network), the decision support and incident simulation platform, and the system for predicting the consequences of nuclear incidents and determining the required proactive response actions.
