From January 4th to 8th, 2026, the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission (NRRC) hosted a mission of experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as part of international cooperation and the exchange of global expertise in preparing for and commissioning nuclear research reactors according to the highest safety and security standards.
This workshop was part of the NRRC's ongoing efforts to adopt and implement international best practices in nuclear facility safety and to enhance regulatory and technical readiness for the various operational phases. The workshop also saw the participation of leading specialists from King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), where the first nuclear research reactor in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is currently under construction.
This event aimed to raise the level of national expertise, enhance coordination among relevant entities, and benefit from international experiences and expertise to ensure the safe and sustainable operation of nuclear research reactors, in line with national requirements and the Kingdom's international obligations.
