The CEO of the NRRC delivered the opening remarks at the Nuclear & Radiological Emergency Preparedness Conference
(EPR2025), highlighting the Commission's efforts in strengthening preparedness and response capabilities

We reaffirm that preparedness for nuclear emergency is not a static concept, but a dynamic and living framework - one that adapts to new realities, utilizing emerging tools, and relies on the collective strength of our scientific, regulatory, and humanitarian communities.

The NRC utilized a comprehensive surveillance program across the Arabian Gulf and Red Sea, covering major desalination plants from Khobar and Jubail to Yanbu and Farasan, although it is well known that sea water desalination technologies are good at removal of radioactive contaminants. More than 1,100 water samples were collected and over 6,600 radioactivity analyses performed.

We learned that a nuclear breach anywhere is a threat everywhere; that a failure anywhere is a warning everywhere; that a loss of nuclear safety anywhere is a loss of confidence everywhere; and that no nation stands alone in an emergency - resilience is a shared defense.

It is here that we bridge the lessons of the past with the instruments of the future - combining tested drills with new technologies, and shared principles with practical solutions that protect lives and sustain
confidence.
