The Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission, in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, held a workshop on nuclear law. The workshop was attended by a number of relevant entities, such as the Council of Ministers Secretariat, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Energy, the Public Prosecution, and the Saudi Bar Association. The workshop addressed legal frameworks and the international obligations contained in a number of international instruments (treaties, agreements, and resolutions), that strengthen national capabilities for the control of nuclear facilities and materials, practices and radioactive sources, nuclear security and safety aspects, nuclear non-proliferation parameters, and civil liability for nuclear damage. The Kingdom's national regulations include the Nuclear and Radiological Uses Control System, the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage System, the National System for Combating Terrorism and its Financing, and the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority, all of which fall within the framework of three national policies: the national policy on atomic energy, the national policy on radioactive waste management, and the national policy on occupational safety and health. These regulatory frameworks are collectively known as the Nuclear Law, and the system for monitoring nuclear and radiation uses has issued 17 technical regulations.
