training programme Quality Control for Medical Radiation Devices in Diagnostic Radiology
12 July 2026
The Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission (NRRC) has launched the training programme “Quality Control for Medical Radiation Devices in Diagnostic Radiology” in Riyadh, taking place from 12 to 16 July 2026. The programme brings together a number of specialists and professionals working in the field of medical radiation devices as part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to strengthen national capabilities, promote compliance with regulatory requirements, and reinforce best practices in radiation safety.
The programme aims to enhance participants’ understanding of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) concepts for medical radiation devices used in diagnostic radiology, while promoting compliance with regulatory requirements. It also seeks to develop the knowledge and practical skills of specialists in performing quality control tests, thereby improving the performance and efficiency of medical radiation equipment and ensuring the production of high-quality diagnostic images using the lowest reasonably achievable radiation dose, in accordance with internationally recognized radiation protection principles and standards.
The programme features a series of scientific lectures and hands-on training sessions delivered by experienced experts. These sessions cover the latest concepts and practices in quality control and quality assurance, methods for evaluating the performance of medical radiation devices, procedures for conducting quality control tests, and an overview of the applicable regulatory requirements. The programme also highlights the importance of implementing these requirements to strengthen the safety of radiological practices and enhance the quality of diagnostic imaging services.
In addition, the programme focuses on developing participants’ technical competencies by equipping them with the practical knowledge and methodologies required to perform quality control tests effectively. This contributes to improving operational performance, minimizing the likelihood of equipment malfunctions or technical deviations that may affect diagnostic image quality, and ensuring the continued accuracy, reliability, and optimal performance of medical radiation devices.
The programme forms part of the Commission’s broader efforts to develop national capabilities in nuclear and radiological safety and security, foster a strong culture of regulatory compliance, and support facilities and practitioners in implementing best practices for the safe use of medical radiation devices. These efforts are aligned with international standards and contribute to protecting patients, workers, the public, and the environment from radiation-related risks.
Through its specialized training and capacity-building initiatives, the Commission continues to fulfill its regulatory mandate by enhancing the competencies of professionals working in activities under its jurisdiction, strengthening readiness and excellence in regulatory implementation, supporting the Kingdom’s healthcare development objectives, improving the quality of healthcare services, and maintaining the highest standards of nuclear and radiological safety and security.
