The Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission participated in the 7th International Conference on Effective Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Systems (RegCon2026), organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna. The conference brought together regulatory bodies, international organizations, and experts from around the world and is considered one of the leading international forums dedicated to advancing regulatory systems and enhancing their efficiency, resilience, and sustainability in the nuclear and radiological sector.
During the conference, specialists and experts from the Commission presented the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s experience in building regulatory human capacities and qualifying and developing national competencies in nuclear and radiological fields. This was highlighted through training and development programs, as well as specialized initiatives aimed at strengthening technical and regulatory knowledge and enhancing the readiness of national professionals to work in this vital sector.
The Commission also showcased the role of digital transformation and data governance in enhancing regulatory effectiveness, highlighting key digital initiatives that contributed to the development of regulatory processes and the improvement of licensing, inspection, and follow-up procedures. The presentation further emphasized the use of modern technologies to support decision-making and strengthen integration among regulatory systems and data, in line with international best practices.
In addition, the Commission participated in the international panel discussion titled “Fostering Regulatory Agility: Emerging and Senior Leaders in Dialogue,” which addressed the importance of enhancing regulatory agility, empowering emerging leaders, and enabling regulatory bodies to keep pace with rapid changes and future challenges facing the global nuclear and radiological sector. The discussion also emphasized the importance of developing institutional work environments and promoting a culture of innovation and sustainability in regulatory practices.
This participation reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to applying the highest international standards in nuclear regulation and supporting the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, in alignment with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
